For those of you who don't know the Orgullosamente Latino (Proudly Latin) awards started in 2004. This is an award where the fans of the nominees in each category are able to cast their votes for several weeks via computer. At the end of the voting process a winner is declared. You could say that this is an award that is "by the people, for the people."
Chayanne was nominated in the Trayectoria Latina category, and has been declared the winner. This category celebrates artists that have been in the industry for more than 20 years. The other nominees in the category were Ricky Martin, Alejandra Guzmán, Ricardo Arjona and Laura Pausini. Chayanne carried over 33% of the votes.
This is a well deserved win for Chayanne. Not only does have longevity as an entertainer, he has the quality of music that can back up that great career.
I dare not speak for all of Chayanne's many fans, which span the globe, but I can say that there are many excited fans out there celebrating.
