Have you ever heard of the saying “it’s like comparing apples to oranges”? Well, this statement is very valid when it comes to comparing Chayanne and Ricky Martin. From the very beginning these two amazing artists have been compared in everything they do. They both began their careers in boy bands, Chayanne in Los Chicos and Ricky in Menudo. There was something special about each one of them and they stood out from the rest of the members from the very beginning. As they got older their careers took a turn and they both became solo artists.
Every so often I come across some type of survey or article asking us to choose between Chayanne and Ricky Martin. This is where “apples and oranges” come in. First of all it is my absolute belief that these two unbelievable artists cannot be compared to each other. Chayanne and Ricky Martin might both come from the same lovely country of Puerto Rico and have that Latin rhythm that ignites passion in all of us but as far as comparing them as artists and their performances on stage I believe one is an apple and one is an orange. So here is my comparison and I hope you enjoy it. To me Chayanne is an orange – juicy, tropical, sexy, clean smelling, ripe and ready to eat. Ricky on the other hand is firm, fun, tasty, fresh, alluring, and forbidden.
I was lucky enough to attend two of Chayanne’s concerts last year and two of Ricky’s concerts this past weekend. I have to tell you that there is no way that I can compare these two artists when it comes to their music and their performances.
Chayanne has a way, like no other, to capture romance, sensuality, and love while he performs. He has a way of connecting with each and every one of his fans, looking into your eyes, and making you feel like you are the only one there and he is singing the song just for you! When you attend one of Chayanne’s concerts you don’t want to take your eyes off him and no matter how amazing his singing and dancing is I truly believe that Chayanne can sit on stage and balance his checkbook and we would still sit there totally mesmerized! Now this is not a quality that everyone possesses; only Chayanne can hypnotize us with his unique ways. And the funny thing is that he doesn’t really have to try hard, it comes so natural to him and by performing with his heart in his hands he projects this amazing love that wraps you and traps you and you are never the same after that. Chayanne’s message at his concert is to fall in love, to take care of your relationship, to nurture your loved ones, and that love really does conquer all.
Ricky’s concert was totally different, but nevertheless incredible! Ricky is the fun, party animal, sensual, and fun loving performer. His performance was almost like a Broadway show. It had a storyline from beginning to end and with each song you felt his emotion, his passion, his energy, and his electrifying charisma. His concert has a very incredible and powerful message behind it, which is equality for every human being. At Ricky’s concert I enjoyed looking at him because he is gorgeous but I loved dancing, and having fun, and taking in the power behind his lyrics. It was a totally different experience from Chayanne’s concert. Ricky Martin is a people person and he wants to be accepted for the person that he is, no matter what his preferences might be. He delivers this message through his music and and when the concert is over you feel his peace, his happiness, and his energy and you feel like you can conquer the world!
I read a very interesting article that describes fruits and personalities and I think they hit it right on the nose when it comes to Chayanne being an orange and Ricky being an apple. Read it and let me know what you think!
An orange speaks of a person who has enduring patience and willpower. You like to do things slowly, but very thoroughly and are completely undaunted by hard work. You tend to be shy, but are reliable and a trustworthy friend. You select your partner with care and you love with all your heart. You avoid conflict at all costs.
An apple is an extravagant, impulsive and outspoken person, often with a bit of a temper. While you may not be the best organizer yourself, you make a good team leader and are good at moving things forward. You can take quick action in most situations. You enjoy travel immensely. You ooze with charm when you are with your partner. You have an enthusiasm for life, unmatched by most.
So I don’t think is fair to compare Chayanne and Ricky Martin. They are both two very talented artists but most important of all two very unique human beings who love what they do and give their all to their fans! Life is full of decisions and this sure is a hard one for me, but as far as I am concerned I think I will always love oranges the most, but apples are right there behind oranges. Variety is the spice of life, so an orange today and an apple tomorrow – not too bad when we are referring to Chayanne and Ricky right?
So, what do you think about apples and oranges? I would love to get your feedback on this topic. Please leave a comment and tell me how you feel when people compare Chayanne and Ricky Martin, if you think they are alike or different, and what your personal preference is? Can’t wait to read your comments!!

ReplyDeleteI have been and will forever be an orange girl. Ive never even been tempted by apples. There's absolutely nothing wrong with juicy apples but at the end of my meal... I will always want an orange :-D
I agree with you completely when you say Chayanne and Ricky cannot be compared. It'd be like comparing the sun to the moon. It's impossible. They are both great artists and have a lot to offer a large variety of fans.
Candela, what an inspiring and wonderful post! Unfortunately, I have a lot to comment on it, but you will have to give me a few days. I had minor surgery on the middle finger of both hands a week ago, and I have been working on two Beethoven pieces since that very evening. One of the sonatas is 116=1/4 note, and the first movement is full of 32nd note runs ( my right hand can't even fit between the black keys, because of all the bandaging). Suffice to say, your post is BRILLIANT, and I will comment on it as soon as I am able to type more speedily, and without all of the errors. Today (and yesterday, of course) were my first days off - I've been practicing, between the Symphony and the chamber music, about ten to sixteen hours a day, so my fingers are really worn out! Ironically, I could normally sight-read at the first rehearsal, and have both pieces down by the next day; ces't la vie!
ReplyDeleteClementines (and peaches, strawberries, grapes, mangoes, but… you asked for a comparison between apples and oranges!) are my favorite type of orange fruit, but I always carry a supply of apples and peppermints (for the horses) as well. Character plays a large part in my choice of music - and people - and I love tenor voices (that would be the orange), but I always have a handy supply of apples, and peppermints, on hand (for the horses). As a musician myself, I am astutely aware that technique can be taught, but passion can not. Both Chayanne and Ricky have been extremely blessed, and you are spot-on when you say that one can not - and must not - be compared to the other. This truly is one of your most intelligent posts, and I CAN'T WAIT until I am able to give you the proper feedback it deserves. Priorities, however, dictate that Beethoven must come first - for now;)
Ciao,
Kelly
Dear Bari,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your support sista!!! I truly enjoyed writing this post and I am so happy that everyone has liked it!I am so glad for the opportunity I have been given here to express my feelings and emotions in my blogs! *HUGS*
My dearest Kelly, first of all I am sorry about your surgery and wish you a very speedy recovery! I want to thank you for your kind words, they truly mean the world to me. I wish you lots of luck with Beethoven and I absolutely cannot wait to hear the rest of your feedback. Thanks again and I hope to hear from you soon!
ReplyDeleteGreat post, Candela! I enjoyed reading it very much, and I think you are right on. I enjoy both of these artists but they are very different. Although I also enjoy a good apple now and again, nothing can compare to the Orange...he will always be my #1 favorite. This was very interesting because orange happens to be my favorite color, too. Coincidence? I think not!
ReplyDeleteHi Melissa....thanks for your comment! I am glad you feel the same way about me about apples and oranges! Nothing like a delicious, juicy orange right? Hope you continue to follow our blog and enjoy our posts. *HUGS*
