The Best IS Yet To Come! Chayanne Talks Tony Bennett on Despierta America (English Translation)

Chayanne was interviewed about his experience recording a duet with Tony Bennett this morning on Despierta America, on Univision.

When fans first heard the news about the recording, the questions that was on everyone's lips was, "What song did they record?". Well now we know! The song that Chayanne and Tony recorded together is "The Best Is Yet To Come", which was first recorded in 1962 on Tony's album "I Left My Heart In San Francisco". Tony then went on to record it as a duet with Diana Krall in 2000 (Duets: An American Classic).

As for me.....I can't wait to hear this beautiful pairing in surround sound, when this album drops! But in the mean time. Please enjoy this translation of today's interview. This translation was done by none other that my very dear Sister Girl, Rosalita! (That't the way Guajira's Roll!) Much Love!

Enjoy!

It’s not every day that you have a meeting between two great artists, Tony Bennett and Chayanne. They have brought together their voices and talents for an upcoming record, “Duets”. Tony Bennett is winner of 16 American Grammys.

Maria: It looks like a dream turned reality that I find you here taping with Tony Bennett. How did that collaboration come about?

Chay: It began with a conversation with reps from Sony Music. They said there were talks about doing a duet with Mr. Tony Bennett. I said it would be my pleasure given his grand musical career! Tony Bennett is an 85-year old man who has dedicated all his life to music and I loved the project and that’s how it came together. It was very spontaneous!

Maria: Without even thinking twice?

Chay: Yes, without thinking twice. Although his music is a different rhythm and style, but as a concept, it was very beautiful. It’s a tribute to him.

Maria: How was that first encounter with Tony? Did you guys know each other? Did you shake hands? Did you hug? Because he’s not your everyday guy.

Chay: When I got there, it was first a gesture of a “hug” as I approached him. Because you see the calm surroundings. And as I got closer, it was nice to hug him and show my appreciation and thank for including me in this project. And at the same time telling him thanks for inviting me to be part of this project.

Maria: And the song that he chose to sing with you was “And the Best is Yet to Come”. The title fits you like a ring to a finger.

Chay: Yes, the best is yet to come. As I was saying earlier, be it with a partner or seen as a lifestyle, it’s always thinking about the best is yet to come.

Maria: And I had the opportunity and privilege to watch your taping with Tony Bennett. What went through your mind [Chay laughs]. I looked over at you and at times you would semi-dance and then you would smile. What went through your mind as you were face to face with Tony Bennett?

Chay: It’s just that he has a lot of rhythm in his voice. But when you see him, you’re seeing his entire career, you’re seeing a person from the music industry, you’re seeing a living legend, you’re seeing someone who is passionate about his career. So, at one point, you can identify with that and you maintain that respect.

Maria: Were you nervous?

Chay: You get nervous because you want him to like what you are doing.

Maria: Is there something that Mr. Tony Bennett said to you after you finished taping?

Chay: The best is yet to come!

Maria: The best is yet to come! Chayanne! Congratulations!

Chay: Thank you! Thank you very much to “Despierta America” to all the staff at “Despierta America” you know that I love you very much and all those watching this on TV. This project with Tony Bennett, this tribute that he is making with all these Latin artists, is very beautiful. It is lovely and I hope you can enjoy it and do that “swing” with us! Take care!

Maria: … and that the best …

Chay: … is yet to come!

Chayanne and Tony Bennett Making Magic

"Chayanne joined his voice to that of Tony Bennett as part of the new album of duets singer.

Puerto Rican singer made the announcement via his official Twitter account, which he described as "a wonderful experience" the artistic encounter with the singer of "Blue Velvet", in addition to audio, video can be enjoyed.

The singer of "Torero" was recording in Miami today and according to his handler, Patty Vega, with its charm, the Puerto Rican was instant chemistry with Bennet.

Tony Bennet, seen medially as the eternal rival of Frank Sinatra, who even recorded "New York, New York," has made a number of recordings under the concept of partnerships in 2006 and 2011."

All I can say is that Tony Bennett is one incredibly smart man! Between Tony Bennett's "Duets" and "Duets 2", he has strategically paired himself with top artists from all of the various genres of music, pop, country, Latin, and R&B.

I have no doubt that Tony's third Duet's album is going to be just as sensational, if not more so than his previous two, especially if the king of the Latin love song is going to be on the track list.

I wonder what other surprises Chayanne's going to give us? I guess we're going to have to wait and see! But I can promise you this, what ever it is, it's going to be worth the wait.

Chayanne, Sade....Spontaneous Combustion!

I have often twirled around in my mind if Chayanne was going to do a new duet with who do I think would be the best match. I'm going to tell you off the top, I am NOT a music or voice aficionado...but I know what I like to hear. This thought continued to turn over and ruminated in my mind, then something extremely coincidental happened. Sade's latest CD, "Soldier of Love was released on February 9, 2010. "Soldier of Love" is only her 6th studio release in her 25 years in the industry, and her first since her last album "Lovers Rock" on 2000. Sade's sultry and smooth as silk vocals are only matched by her simplistic but stunning beauty. Hot off the press, Sade has received two nominations for the 2011 Grammy's one for "Soldier of Love" for "Best R&B Performance by a Group", and the other for "Baby Father" for "Best Pop Performance by a Group"

Then, Chayanne's most recent CD "No Hay Imposibles" dropped February 22, 2010. "No Hay Imposibles" brought an entire new pallet of vocal colors to Chayanne's repertoire, while at the same time preserving all of the qualities in his music that his fans have come to not only love, but to cling to.

"Chayanne’s 22nd album is a comfortable effort divided between the usual romantic ballads and effervescent dance songs fans have come to expect from the Puerto Rican singer. Even though he’s been down this road many times before, No Hay Imposibles is still filled with the enthusiasm and conviction that many artists less established than the million-selling Chayanne lack. When he sings of a first encounter for what must be the umpteenth time, believing that he’s free-falling into a new love is as easy as ever it was. Highlights include the elegant “Dime” and the sunshine-bright retro rocker “Besos en la Boca (Beijar Na Boca),” plus “Me EnamorĂ© de Ti,” the theme from the soap opera Corazon Salvaje."  ~ David Jeffries, All Music Guide

(Don't get me started on Chayanne and the Grammy's that's a blog for another day)...and then it hit me! What if Chayanne and Sade were to record a duet!

I have to tell you, I think it would be a match made in record heaven! After Chayanne's recent performance in Atlantic City, at the Trump Taj Mahal, a few of us were sitting around (You know who all of you are *giggle*) talking and exchanging ideas and thoughts about Chayanne of course, among other things, and I brought up the subject of duets. I said what about Chayanne and Sade? There was a general consensus that this would be off the chain!

Think about it for a minute, picture with me if you will.....close your eyes and imagine......Sade's silky alto voice, paired with Chayanne's smooth tenor. Their ballad styles are beautifully complementary to one another, both have an international appeal, and to top it off both are on the Sony Music Label (Chayanne is listed under Sony Music Latin, and Sade is listed under RCA, which is a label group under Sony Music Entertainment). What could be more fortuitous than that! (Besides from what I hear Papi is crazy about Sade, *wink* and Sade must dig the hot Latin thing, after all she was married to Spanish film maker Carlos Scola for three years)

Then of course if they were to record a duet together, there would have to be a video right? Of course! How good would they look together in the vid? Off the scale! Now that would be sexy!

So Chayanne, Sade, if either one of you just happen to come across this blog post, just stop and give this some serious thought...twirl it around...ruminate on it.....after all....No Hay Imposibles para los Soldiers of Love!
